Glory to God!

In the South it’s not uncommon to hear these three words as a response to just about anything good. “Glory to God” covers everything from finding a gas station when a car’s tank is on empty to locating a restroom when a child’s bladder is full.

From a theological perspective, acknowledging the glory of God is appropriate given the Lord’s interest in tiny details such as the number of hairs on a human head or the location of every sparrow ...

Peace Accomplished and Applied

“It is finished.”

With these words Jesus declared His work on earth was done.  Three days later, with the miracle of His resurrection, humanity’s redemption was complete.  This is the unfathomable expression of God’s love we celebrate this week as Easter approaches.  It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect Person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, He did everything that needed to be done.  Our redemption in Christ lacks nothing.  It is a complete redemption.  In ...

Hope and Change that Lasts!

Today, we elect those who will lead us.  It is a very big deal.  The opportunity to choose our leaders is one of the most precious freedoms we enjoy in America. Men and women have put their lives on the line to protect and preserve it.  It is a gift from God, and we have a responsibility to exercise the privilege carefully and prayerfully.

The day of the mediation was the first time in eight ...

Wishing you a blessed Christmas!

Charlene and I were in Israel just a few weeks ago. Jeff and Robbyn Apthorp, a delightful and very talented couple from Charlotte, were among our traveling companions. One of their children, Valerie, was caught “on tape” at age 4 reciting Luke 2:1-20. Later, at age 15, Valerie composed and played music to go with the story she had shared 11 years earlier. I found it delightful and want to share it with you as Christmas approaches this year.
