Individuals who request that PeacePoint post their profiles as Independent Peace Advocates must meet the following minimum training, experience and continuing education requirements.
1. Initial Training
Peace Advocates must successfully complete one of the following training programs.
- PeacePoint Coaching Training (PAT 110) and PeacePoint Mediator Training (PAT 120)

- Basic Mediator Training PLUS PeacePoint Crossover Training (PAT 130)
Basic Mediator Training must include a minimum of 24 total hours of training in mediation process skills including, but not limited to, the following topics: conflict theory, negotiation, dynamics of the mediation process, issues identification, generating options, caucusing, managing party interaction, ethics, impasse strategies, philosophies of mediation and mediator styles, role of the mediator and simulated mediation role-plays providing performance-based evaluation. Applicants must provide a detailed course description and a certificate of completion or a letter from the training organization. - PeacePoint Crossover Training (PAT 130) encompasses the following topics: disputes and conflicts – similarities and differences; the priorities of peacemaking; roles and responsibilities of the Peace Advocate; understanding disputes and conflicts from a biblical worldview; anatomy of reconciliation; the role and use of Scripture; the role and involvement of church authorities; the biblical-legal interface; practical framework for the Peace Advocate. 2. Prior Experience
Consistent use is required for peace advocacy skills to remain sharp. Therefore, Peace Advocates must document the following experience during the 12 months immediately preceding any year in which they request their profile be posted.
- 20 hours of combined service as a coach, a mediator or an arbitrator.
- Not less than five of the 20 hours required in paragraph (a) above must involve acting as a mediator in a matter or matters in which all of the conflicted/disputing parties were present. This mediation may be informal or formal.
- The five hours of mediation experience required in paragraph (b) above may be satisfied by participating in practical skills training which includes interactive role plays or otherwise requires participants to practice mediation skills. Verification of participation and completion must be provided.
Prior Experience requirements are waived for Peace Advocates who complete their Initial Training during the 12 months immediately preceding the year in which they request their profile be posted and for persons who are active Certified Christian Conciliators with Peacemaker Ministries or active candidates for certification through Peacemaker Ministries. Verification of certification status from Peacemaker Ministries is required.
3. Continuing Education
All Peace Advocates must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning. Therefore, Peace Advocates must participate in 10 hours of continuing education during the 12 months immediately preceding any year in which they request their profile be posted. Continuing education may be obtained through any combination of the following:
- Participating in training or education seminars, programs or workshops offered by PeacePoint, Peacemaker Ministries or any other approved dispute/conflict resolution organization or ministry. This training and education may be obtained in-person, online or by listening to audio recordings. Reading approved books or publications and writing a brief (half-page minimum/two page maximum) summary of what was learned from the material.
- Preparing articles or other writings for publication or distribution on subjects related to the resolution of disputes or reconciliation of conflicts preferably, but not necessarily, in the context of the Christian Community. An outline of any proposed writing must be submitted to PeacePoint in advance for approval and assignment of credit hours.
Continuing Education requirements are waived for Peace Advocates who complete their Initial Training during the 12 months immediately preceding the year in which they request their profile be posted and for persons who are active Certified Christian Conciliators with Peacemaker Ministries or active candidates for certification through Peacemaker Ministries. Verification of certification status from Peacemaker Ministries is required.
4. Initial and Renewal Profile Posting Requests
Individuals wishing to post their profiles as Independent Peace Advocates must submit an Initial Peace Advocate Profile Posting Request for the first year they wish to post their profiles and a Renewal Request for each year thereafter. Contact Us to request a Peace Advocate Posting Request form. Each Initial and Renewal Request must be accompanied by reports, completion certificates or other papers verifying that all posting requirements have been met, an up to date Peace Advocate Profile and a current photograph. PeacePoint reserves the right to decline any Initial or Renewal Request submitted and to remove any posted profile at any time in its sole discretion.
5. Peace Advocate Profile Maintenance Fees
At this time, PeacePoint does not require the payment of any fee in connection with the posting of Peace Advocate Profiles on its website. It may become necessary to do so in the future as the number of Peace Advocates grows and the work involved in administering Peace Advocate online profiles increases. PeacePoint will provide advance notice of any fees or costs that will be charged.
